SIS Research Area - Intelligent Systems & Decisions Analytics

Overview

Our research focuses on modeling, analysis and design of "intelligent" systems that "interact" amongst themselves and with people to provide decision making support capability in business management settings.

The underlying research is multi-disciplinary in approach, targeting at the intersection of Computer Science (particularly, Artificial Intelligence), Management Science, and Computational Game Theory.

Besides modeling and computational theory research, we are also interested in designing software tools and frameworks that leverages IT to provide intelligent decision support to real-world operations environments, such as grid and service-oriented architectures, semantic web, and software agents.

Our research are motivated by practical applications and have been deployed in commercial and government organisations including the military.

Current Research Themes

1. Intelligent Agents for Decision Support

2. Computational Intelligence for Optimisation and Decision Support

3. Business Simulation and Gaming

4. Geo-analytics for Decision Support

5. Logistics and Supply Chain Decision Support

Significant Partnerships

The Logistics Institute - Asia-Pacific (TLI-AP), Defence Logistics

  • Associate Professor LAU Hoong Chuin is the Programme Director for the Jaguar Programme, a multi-year defence logistics effort funded by Singapore's Ministry of Defence. Professor Lau is also cross-appointed at TLI-AP as an Adjunct Fellow.

Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), a Research Institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)

  • Researchers from SIMTech's Planning and Operations Management Group are collaborating with our ISI faculty. One example is SIMTech's participation in our research project, "Time Sensitive Flexible Coordination in a Service Oriented Enterprise Chain".

The International Trading Institute (ITI) @ SMU

  • Through ITI, experts from the commodity trading industry are working with Assistant Professor CHENG Shih-Fen in developing the next-generation commodity trading simulation. The commodity trading 26 September, 2011->the ITI-sponsored education/training programs.
