OTHER MATERIAL

Here you can easily access YouTube material pertaining to the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam, including the following clips.

Tuyên ngôn độc lập (7 min 33 s)

I like this YouTube clip put online by a Vietnamese user. In the background, you will hear what seems to be Ho Chi Minh’s independence speech (this is not the live version which was lost, but rather a studio recording made by Ho Chi Minh about ten years later) while showing what appears to be a contemporary poster featuring the full independence speech, followed by what appears to be live footage of the Vietnamese declaration of independence on Sunday 02 September 1945 in Hanoi, and other material (not all of appears to be from 02 September 1945, or even 1945). I like the small details, such as the big limousines accompanied by bicycle-riding escorts, or the wind that seems to move the flags: they confirm written accounts and, in some cases, provide information not provided in the academic literature [see the references page].

There are many more such videos (in Vietnamese), usually with Ho’s speech accompanied by photos or film footage, on YouTube. The below is just a small selection.
