Personal Activities

I like to read, sing and take walks in the park.

What do I read? Typically, they are non-fictional books, such as those on health-care, exercise and outdoor, and the history of mathematics and science.

Lately, I have been reading, web surfing and getting directly involved in community development work: how to activate and support a rural village to improve itself, get access to adequate and clean water supply, address sanitation, health, living conditions, livelihood, and children and youth education concerns.

Ah yes, I also like to watch kungfu movies and period drama videos on Chinese history. After completing, the Korean "Jewel of the Palacce", I watched Chin dynasty emperors "Kangxi" and "Yongzheng", a well-known Chinese emperor of the Han dynasty "Han Wu Ti", and also another of an emperor who choose to sleep on twigs and taste the bitterness of goose livers. I have watched and rewatched "Red Cliff", a movie directed by John Woo about the famous ancient military strategist Kong Meng.

My recent discovery in walking the parks in Singapore is that Jurong lake now has a wonderful new park. It connects to the Chinese and Japanese gardens, and is very peaceful and quiet. Have not seen the new Hort park yet and still looking forward to taking on the skywalk at the MacRitchie reservoir and also the even longer and more majestic 9 km sky trail that connects our southern ridges.

I have since ventured to taking weekly walks into the nature reserve. These are long rugged hikes into the wilderness, and taken me to see wild-life, birds, trees and plants in the secondary forest of Singapore.
