Jialie is a faculty member of the School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University, Singapore. He received his PhD from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia in the area of large-scale information retrieval and database access methods. He worked as a lecturer at Sydney and researcher at Glasgow for a few years, before moving to SMU, Singapore.

Jialie's main research interests include information retrieval, multimedia systems, data mining, statistical machine learning and its various domain applications (e.g.,Computational Economics and Information System Management). His work has been published or is forthcoming in leading journals and international conferences including ACM SIGIR, ACM Multimedia, ACM SIGMOD, ICDE, WWW, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (IEEE TCSVT), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (IEEE TMM) and ACM Transactions on Information Systems (ACM TOIS).

He has served for around 50 major international conferences as PC member or (and) reviewer including ACM SIGIR, ACM SIGMOD, ACM Multimedia, ACM KDD, VLDB, ICDE, ICDM and around 20 top international journals including ACM TOIS, ACM TOMCCAP, ACM TKDD, ACM Multimedia System Journal (MMSJ Springer), IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TIP, IEEE TKDE, IEEE TCSVT, IEEE TMM, IEEE TSMC-(B/C), Pattern Recognition and Information Science. He is member of ACM SIGIR and ACM SIGMM.
